mr. john licari

John is originally from the Hudson Valley, and attended the Marlboro Central School District.  He was very active in all things musical - concert band, jazz band, chorus, the musical, and and active NYSSMA participant.  After high school, he attended SUNY Orange, and received an AAS in Music Business.

He moved down to New York City in 2007 to attend CUNY Hunter College and received a BA in Music in 2009. Immediately after receiving his BA, he started attending Hunter College again, but this time setting course to earn an MA in Music Education, graduating in 2011 with an MA in Music Education.   He started working as a music teacher in the New York City public school system - P.S. 215Q - Lucretia Mott in Far Rockaway.  There, he raised money to start a concert band, and a modern rock band.  After PS 215Q closed its doors in 2015, he arrived at PS 84.

At P.S. 84 - José De Diego in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, he started a concert band, pop music combo, and assists with the choir, the string orchestra, and co-directs the 5th Grade Musical.  John moonlights as a freelance music copyist, composer, and arranger.  It's not uncommon for his students to be the guinea pigs for one of his new compositions.

When he is not setting a score, composing, or teaching the youth of Williamsburg, he continues to do what he loves doing in his spare time - play the drums.  For 15 years and counting, he has played drums for numerous punk rock outfits including The Black Hand, Tesla's Revenge, and currently The Orgonauts, and Punk Rock Polka Experience.  He also the co-organizer for the All We Got! Records stage at the annual Punk Island NYC music festival, which actively promotes, and curates the best of the best in the underground punk rock scene.

He has also been a percussionist for the Professional Musicians of Orange County, a collection of musicians who are hired to perform in various parades all over the Hudson Valley, New York City, and New Jersey.  One thing is for sure - music is his life, and passion.

Mr. Licari is happily married to his wife Kerry.  They enjoy going to punk shows, and L&B Spumoni Gardens.
